Italian Baroque Era Painter, 1615-1673 Italian painter, draughtsman, etcher, poet and actor. He was one of the most original artists and extravagant personalities of the 17th century. His most popular and influential works were his landscapes, the wild and mountainous beauty of which contrasted with the pastoral scenes of Claude Lorrain. Yet Rosa also painted macabre subjects, erudite philosophical allegories and grand historical themes; he was, moreover, the most significant satirical poet of the Italian 17th century, and there is a close relationship between his poetry and painting. Giovanni Domenico Tiepolo
(August 30, 1727 - March 3, 1804) was a Venetian painter and printmaker in etching. He was the son of artist Giovanni Battista Tiepolo and elder brother of Lorenzo Baldissera Tiepolo.. Domenico was born in Venice, studied under his father, and by the age of 13 was the chief assistant to him. He was one of the many assistants, including Lorenzo, that transferred the designs of his father (executed in the 'oil sketch' invented by the same). By the age of 20, he was producing his own work for commissioners. He assisted his father in Werzburg 1751-3, decorating the famous stairwell fresco, in Vicenza at the Villa Valmarana in 1757, and in Madrid at the palace of Charles III from 1762-70.
Charles Napier Hemy
English Painter, 1841-1917, British painter, He was born at Newcastle-on-Tyne, of a musical family. He was trained in the Government School if Design, Newcastle, in the Antwerp academy and in the studio of Baron Leys. He returned to London in the 1870s. In 1881, he moved to Falmouth, Cornwall. He produced some figure subjects and landscapes, but is best known by his marine paintings. He was elected an Associate of the Royal Academy in 1898 and an Academician in 1910, Associate of the Royal Society of Painters in Water Colours in 1890 and member in 1897. Two of his paintings, "Pilchards" (1897) and "London River" (1904), are in the Tate collections. He had two brothers who were also artists, Thomas Hemy and Bernard Hemy. He died in Falmouth on September 30, 1917.
